This Level 4 qualification is designed for beauty therapists looking to specialise in advanced, results-driven aesthetic treatments and progress within the skin rejuvenation sector.
Your Pathway to Microneedling Expertise
This course is designed to develop your knowledge and practical ability in professional skin needling. Throughout the 8 weeks, you will build an understanding of collagen induction therapy, microneedling device techniques, needle depth selection, and safe treatment protocols.
You will gain hands-on experience working with professional devices in a clinical setting, allowing you to develop the confidence required to perform microneedling treatments safely and effectively.
Many practitioners choose to combine microneedling with chemical peels to deliver more advanced skin rejuvenation results.
What Makes Our Level 4 Microneedling Training Different
Individual Treatment Rooms for Skin Needling Practice
Unlike most beauty schools where students share equipment in crowded spaces, at Portobello Aesthetics Training Academy you’ll practise microneedling treatments in individual treatment rooms. This is crucial for advanced aesthetics where you need to focus on precise needling technique, depth control, and professional device handling without distractions. You’ll work exactly as you would in a real clinic environment.
Small Class Size – Maximum 4 Students
We believe in small classes because microneedling training requires precise technique and individual attention when working with professional needling devices. With just 4 students per course, you’ll receive personalised guidance from experienced aesthetic practitioners with over 45 years combined experience in advanced skin treatments. Your tutor can watch your hand positioning, correct your technique, and ensure proper needle penetration.
Comprehensive 8-Week Format
Our microneedling course in Ladbroke Grove is structured as an 8-week programme (one day per week), giving you thorough, progressive training from basic needling techniques through to advanced scar revision and treatment protocols. You’ll master different needle depths and treatment areas, building confidence and competence gradually.
Professional-Grade Devices
Train with professional automated microneedling devices used in leading London aesthetic clinics and medical spas. You’ll understand different device types, needle cartridge configurations, depth settings, and how to select appropriate protocols for various skin concerns and treatment areas.
Expert Tutors with Extensive Aesthetic Experience
You’ll learn from highly experienced aesthetic practitioners who perform microneedling regularly in London clinics. They bring over 45 years of combined experience, meaning they understand what works in professional practice, how to manage challenging skin concerns, and how to develop your skills effectively for real-world application.
Looking to Offer More Advanced Skin Treatments?
If you’re planning to offer both microneedling and chemical peels, you can enrol on our combined course package, allowing you to expand your treatment menu and offer more advanced skin rejuvenation solutions.
Alternatively, if you’re looking to become fully qualified in aesthetics, our VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Aesthetic Therapies provides a complete pathway into the industry.
Questions You’re Probably Asking About Microneedling Training
Do I need beauty therapy qualifications first?
Yes – this is a Level 4 course which means you must already hold a Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualification. This ensures you have foundational knowledge of skin anatomy, facial treatments, consultation skills, and professional working practices. Microneedling is an advanced treatment requiring proper understanding of skin, so this prerequisite protects both you and your future clients.
Will I be insured to work after completing this course?
Yes. This VTCT Skills (ITEC) Level 4 qualification is recognised by professional insurance providers across the UK. Upon qualifying, you’ll be able to obtain appropriate insurance to perform microneedling treatments. We recommend providers such as Balens, Guild, or PEI, all of whom accept this qualification.
How many treatments will I perform during the course?
You’ll perform multiple microneedling treatments throughout the 8 weeks, working with different models and treating various concerns at different needle depths. Typically you’ll complete 8-12 treatments as part of your practical training and assessment. With only 4 students in your class, you’ll have extensive hands-on time with professional devices.
What’s the difference between derma rollers and microneedling pens?
Derma rollers are manual tools that roll across the skin – they’re less precise and can cause more trauma due to the rolling action. Professional automated microneedling pens use a stamping motion with precise depth control, causing less skin damage and achieving better results. You’ll train with professional pens used in London clinics.
Can I treat all skin types with microneedling?
Microneedling can be performed on all Fitzpatrick skin types, but darker skin tones (IV-VI) require careful technique and conservative depth selection to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This is a major focus of your training – you’ll learn to assess skin types, select appropriate depths, and manage PIH risks properly.
How much should I charge for microneedling once qualified?
Prices in London typically range from £150-£250 for facial microneedling, £200-£350+ for face and neck, and £150-£300 for body areas like stretch marks depending on size. Many practitioners offer package deals (e.g., course of 3 sessions for £400-£600) which encourages client commitment and provides regular income.
What’s the downtime after microneedling?
Depends on needle depth. Superficial needling (0.5mm-1.0mm) causes redness for 24-48 hours. Moderate depth (1.0mm-1.5mm) causes redness and possible flaking for 2-4 days. Deep needling (1.5mm-2.5mm) can cause redness, swelling, and peeling for 3-7 days. You’ll learn how to educate clients about realistic downtime and recovery for each depth.
Can microneedling really improve acne scars?
Yes – numerous studies show microneedling significantly improves atrophic acne scarring by stimulating collagen production. Results develop gradually over 3-6 months as new collagen forms. Clients typically need 3-6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Ice pick scars may need deeper needling (1.5mm-2.5mm), whilst rolling scars respond well to moderate depths (1.0mm-1.5mm).
What if I haven’t worked in beauty therapy for a while?
That’s fine. Whilst you need the Level 3 qualification to enrol, we don’t require recent practice. Your tutors will ensure you’re comfortable with skin analysis and professional standards before progressing to practical microneedling. Small class size (just 4 students) means extra time for anyone needing to refresh their skills.
Do I need to buy my own microneedling device after qualifying?
Not immediately – many practitioners start by working in clinics or salons with existing equipment. If you want to work independently, professional automated microneedling devices cost £200-£2,000+ depending on quality. You’ll also need sterile single-use cartridges (£2-£8 each). We’ll discuss equipment purchasing during your business training.
Can I combine microneedling with other treatments?
Yes, but specific protocols apply. Microneedling combines well with serums, PRP (platelet-rich plasma), growth factors, and certain peels – though timing and sequencing matter. You cannot perform microneedling immediately after chemical peels or laser treatments. You’ll learn about treatment spacing and combination protocols during training.
What happens if I miss a session?
We understand emergencies happen. If you miss a session, you’ll need to make it up to meet course requirements and qualification criteria. Depending on circumstances, this might mean joining that specific session with our next cohort. Please inform us as soon as possible if you can’t attend.
